Children at St. John’s!

Sunday School

The children’s program at St. John’s serves elementary-age students (kindergarten through sixth grade). The core of the program is Sunday School class, held weekly at 9:15 am in the large classroom on the first floor of the church. Our class follows the Episcopal Children’s Curriculum developed by Virginia Theological Seminary, with frequent use of Godly Play lessons within the sequence of the ECC. Children gather to hear a story from Scripture followed by discussion, singing from the Hymnal, and an art project related to the day’s lesson. Students leave class with a question for fellow parishioners to ask them as a way of bringing our fellowship into the wider church community. The Sunday School year has a sequential curriculum, but each class is a stand-alone lesson, so any child can join us anytime!

Child care is available during both the 8:00 and 10:30 service in the nursery on the ground floor of the church for children from birth through age three.  Our experienced and caring staff members ensure a safe, loving environment for both playtime and learning.  Our staff includes licensed teachers with training for working with special needs children.  Pagers are used to contact parent.  Materials and toys are child friendly and are sanitized between uses to maintain a healthy environment for our children.
